Fire blazingWe held our class entitled, “Ancient and Modern Relationships with Fire,” at Juniper Jungle Farm and had access to a tipi for the day! Meeting in this structure that has been used for generations to keep warm really evoked a magical feeling in all of us. For our class, we shared why the four directions were and are important to indigenous peoples and how we can incorporate these elements when we build fire in the old way. The kids were anxious to  help build the fire in the center of our small inclosure. Dreamer captivated everyone’s attention with ancient myths about fire and Rainbow Crow. We played a stalking game once the fire turned to coals and practiced our tracking skills in order to find Dreamer, who was dragging a stick behind him. We ended our day with journal reflections and a gratitude circle.
